Aon strengthens Aged Care offering with new appointment

Sydney, 5 July 2018 – Aon has appointed Angela San Diego as Client Director and National Practice Leader of Aged Care to drive Aon’s expanding client portfolio across Australia.

San Diego will focus on building knowledge capital of the aged care industry to further boost Aon’s risk offerings and value-added solutions across residential aged care, retirement villages, home and community aged care services.

Today, the aged care sector is worth $22.2 billion to the Australian economy and more than 15 per cent of the Australian population is aged 65 and over. San Diego joins Aon at a time when the aged care industry is presented with a number of opportunities, as well as challenges, such as a rapidly ageing population. An expected 8.7 million people will be aged 65 years and over by the year 2056.

Kevin O’Reilly, Director of Industry Verticals, said, “At Aon, we are embracing emerging client needs across a broad range of commercial sectors to safeguard against a wide range of risks from traditional public liability through to newer risks such as cyber and mental health. Aon is consistently building its expertise to respond the growing and future needs of the aged care industry.”

“As an experienced broker in the aged care and health sectors, Angela will be our new Aged Care Industry Practice Group (IPG) leader, tasked with building a truly vertical approach across our aged care business,” O’Reilly added.

National Practice Leader, Cyber Risk, Fergus Brooks said, “Aged care is an important sector of the Australian economy, but it is also one of the most vulnerable to the risks of cyber-attacks, system failures and data breaches. We have seen several cyber breaches in aged care organisations, such as data loss and system outages, and we look forward to working closely with Angela to identify ways to better mitigate these threats.”

San Diego has 22 years of industry experience as an insurance broker and risk advisor, having most recently been the National Aged Care Practice Leader for an international broking firm. San Diego was the winner of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) NSW Young Professional Broker of the Year award in 2007.

“I am excited to be working with such an incredible team of experts. Aon has an unparalleled global network of resources and people. Enabled by industry leading proprietary tools, data and analytics we are able to meet the growing needs of the aged care industry. I am thoroughly enjoying collaborating with colleagues nationally in a cohesive approach through our Aged Care Industry Practice Group (IPG),” said San Diego.

San Diego is a NIBA Qualified Practicing Insurance Broker (QPIB), Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance Senior Associate (ANZIF Snr Assoc.) and Certified Insurance Professional (CIP).

Working with the broader risk, retirement and health group, San Diego will be reporting to Kenneth Corcoran, Pacific Health Practice Leader.
