Aon joins new Centre of Excellence to advance understanding of high-impact weather events in the Indo-Pacific region
SYDNEY, 31 Oct. 2024 - Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, todayannounced it has joined as an industry organisation with the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centreof Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century (21st Century Weather), headquartered at MonashUniversity in Australia.
21st Century Weather aims to discover how the region’s weather is being reshaped by climate change.Through a fusion of innovative analyses of observations and fundamental science advances, alongsidethe development of ultra-high resolution climate models, the Centre of Excellence looks to addressclimate science’s grand challenge of anticipating the likely weather patterns of a warmer world.
This academic collaboration is part of Aon’s commitment to being at the forefront of climate science tohelp better manage and advise on climate risk, improve resilience and drive innovation in climate riskanalytics and catastrophe loss modelling.
Dr. Tom Mortlock, head of APAC climate analytics at Aon, said: “Aon has a strong history of academiccollaborations, none more so than in the field of climate science. This new Centre of Excellence will be akey focal point for climate science in the Indo-Pacific region until 2030. Through close association withthis new Centre, we will continue translating cutting-edge research into actionable insights for ourclients. 21st Century Weather is a major consortium of more than 20 academic institutions and organisations,both in Australia and overseas, operating over the next seven years.
